The Active Start Programme

The Active Start programme includes training to inspire and resources to support practitioners in early years settings and Key Stage 1 (KS1) teachers in primary schools to deliver physical activity and play sessions within their settings.

The Active Start programme includes training to inspire and resources to support practitioners in early years settings and Key Stage 1 (KS1) teachers in primary schools to deliver physical activity and play sessions within their settings.

The programme will also increase the engagement of parents and carers with their children through increased physical activity and contribute to the child’s physical, social and emotional development.

  • To increase the confidence and competence of practitioners in early years and teachers at KS1 to deliver and embed the Early Years Physical Literacy Framework (EYPLF) and the Primary National Curriculum respectively through physical activity.
  • To increase physical literacy and participation in physical activity amongst early years children (aged 2-5) and positively impact on their school readiness. Improving children’s physical and mental wellbeing, social and emotional development, with a particular focus on resilience, management of difficult feelings, kindness and self-belief.
  • Connect Parents and Carers with their children and with each other through increased physical activity.
