Funding towards the specialist palliative home nursing service which supports more than 250 patients across west Cumbria with a life limiting illness every year.
The funding was for one of the Senior Hospice Nurses. The role of Senior Hospice Nurse is pivotal, taking full responsibility on a day-to-day basis for prioritising and coordinating care arrangements for patients receiving home nursing and patient support volunteers befriending services, and deploying staff appropriately. The role oversees all aspects of day-to-day home nursing.

Outcome
Maintain the employment of one Senior Hospice Nurse for 12 months to ensure the smooth, safe and consistent delivery of palliative and end of life care across west Cumbria. This will be achieved by the role supporting 16 members of the home nursing team and 7 PSVs to enable them to deliver:
- 9,000 hours of home nursing care overnight and during the day
- Support for 250 patients who have a life limiting illness
- Manage and support the team of PSVs when COVID-19 restrictions allow for this group to carry out their voluntary role.
