ChapterOne

Online volunteering reading programme with 5-7 year-old pupils to support the development of reading skills.

Skills

Working with Sellafield Ltd, PPP and Supply chain partners to roll out the ChapterOne online literacy programme to schools with a high number of disadvantaged students in West Cumbria (over 21% of students on free school meals).

Innovations for Learning (IFL) was set up over 25 years ago by their American founder, Seth Weinberger. In 2012 IFL established an online reading volunteer platform called TutorMate and in 2017 a Tutormate corporate partner, Janus Henderson Investors, approached IFL with an offer to help them expand the programme to the UK. In February 2023 IFL and TutorMate rebranded to Chapter One.

For the whole academic year, corporate volunteers are paired with 5- to 7- year-old pupils to develop reading skills.

The pair enjoy a weekly 30-minute reading session online via the secure, bespoke ChapterOne platform.
