Creation of an early intervention programme of advice, guidance, support and signposting.

Three-year Financial Inclusion project delivered in partnership with Whitehaven, Egremont and District Credit Union.
The project aims to meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable people living throughout the Borough of Copeland by tackling issues arising predominately from Welfare Reform through the creation of an early intervention programme of advice, guidance, support and signposting.

Outcome
- Maintain the provision of specialist welfare benefit support to people living in some of our most deprived wards
- Promote the services offered by WEDCU including low cost loans, savings accounts and Universal Credit acceptance accounts
- Provide support to people who need assistance to manage a change in their circumstances or household budgets tailoring a bespoke package of support to meet individual need
- Promote volunteering opportunities in Copeland
- Provide workshops to local residents to develop skills in budgeting, cookery and how to save money
- Address issues faced by local people including awareness raising campaigns on illegal money lending, scam awareness, energy best deal, saving for Christmas and holiday hunger.
