Seabins
Largest Seabin installation in the world.

The installation of a further six Seabins into Whitehaven Harbour, a total of 7 overall. The Seabins remove solids and oils from the harbour.
The project also included an in-school and waterborne educational programme based around the Seabins to show the impacts of plastic and other pollution on the environment.
The Seabin itself is a bucket with mesh and oil filters which gently draws in water to draw out oil and diesel pollution, as well as floating debris and microplastics down to 2mm small.

Outcome
The removal of plastic, floating debris and oil from Whitehaven Marina by the seabins has had a drastic impact, not only on the environment and the wildlife in the marina, making it a more attractive place for visitors and locals to enjoy the harbour.
The seabin is a relatively new technology and compliments the Bus Station business incubator hub as a place of technological innovation.
Over 400 young people engaged through an education programme to learn about water pollution and the damage plastics are doing to our environment.
Over 1.5 tonnes of debris per year recovered.
